In over 75% of animals older than 3 years, plaque already forms on the teeth and molars. This plaque turns into tartar. Bacteria, which hide under this plaque and tartar, cause bad breath, inflammation, and pain. Eventually, even the jawbone and the roots of the teeth can be affected!
When a dental check-up reveals severe inflammation in the mouth or if we observe affected teeth/molars, we recommend a dental treatment. Such a treatment always takes place under general anesthesia to ensure that we can thoroughly examine the entire set of teeth. First, the whole set of teeth is professionally cleaned using a special dental unit, after which each tooth and molar can be examined individually.
Brushing your cat's or dog's teeth is important to prevent dental problems and health risks. How to do this? We show you in the videos below.
In addition, we have a special dental x-ray machine which allows us to take pictures of the jaw and the roots. This allows us to much better assess the status of the teeth and make decisions about whether or not a tooth should be extracted.
After a dental treatment, we would like to see your pet for a follow-up, where we will primarily focus on methods to keep the teeth clean and healthy.
